The rules of The 6th International Zheng Competition (Europe)

Applications:

1st  Round: 15 April- 30 April (online submission)

2nd Round: 13 May- 20 May (online submission)

3rd  Round：1 – 2 Juni（online）

Concert：10 -11 August (Berlin & Hamburg)

Application requirements:

1. The nationality and age of the participants are not limited, and the performance pieces are not limited.

2. Applicants need to submit the application form online. The incomplete application form will not be accepted.

First-round process:

1. Submit a YouTube link of the performance video online from April 15th to April 30th.

2. The recorded video must ensure that the image and sound quality are clear, and the player’s frontal body performance are visible. The video must not be edited, nor any effects are added. Be sure your video has the proper settings: YouTube Video Manager → videos → Basic Info → from the drop-down menu, please choose “Public” or “Unlisted.” Do not choose “Private.” If there is falsification, the qualification of the contestant will be canceled after the verification.

3. Recording content:

         a. A self-introduction, e.g., “My name is xxx, and the song I play is xxxx.” (Chinese or English);

         b. Performance of whole piece or segments up to 3 minutes.

4. Video title format: [2019 European Zheng Art Festival 1. R] + name + composition title.

5. The judges’ comments and the finalists to 2. round will be notified by email on May 10.

Second round process:

1. May 1st – May 20th, submit the YouTube link of the performance video online and Tencent video link (need to be a public link).

2. The recorded video must ensure that the image and sound quality are clear, and the player’s frontal body performance are visible. The video must not be edited, nor any effects are added. Be sure your video has the proper settings: YouTube Video Manager → videos → Basic Info → from the drop-down menu, please choose “Public” or “Unlisted.” Do not choose “Private.” If there is falsification, the qualification of the contestant will be canceled after the verification.

3. Recording content:

        a. A self-introduction, e.g., “My name is xxx, and the song I play is xxxx.” (Chinese or English);

        b. Performance of the whole piece.

4. Video title format: [2019 European Zheng Art Festival 2. R] + name + composition title.

5. The judges’ comments and the finalists to 3. round (Final in Europe) will be notified by email on May 26.

Final process:

1. June 1st and 2nd, Skype online audition. (The specific order will be notified to the applicants on May 28)

2. Applicants must ensure a clear transmission of images and sound quality.

3. Performance content:

     a. A self-introduction, e.g., “My name is xxx, and the song I play is xxxx.” (Chinese or English);

     b. Performance of the whole piece.

4. The results of the award and the judges’ comments will be announced by email on June 3.

5. The winners of the first prize will be qualified for the global finals held in Hong Kong on August 15-19.

6. All winners and outstanding players will have the opportunity to participate in the awards concerts and music workshops held in Berlin and Hamburg on August 10th and 11th.

Performance pieces and categories:

1. The Performance pieces can be selected by yourself.

2. If the Applicant wants to submit the teenager’s group, the professional group,  ensemble, etc., please refer to the specified pieces in the „Rules of the 6th International Zheng Competition”.

3. Participants should play without reading notes.

Awards:

The second European Zheng Music Festival and the sixth international Guzheng competition in Europe will be awarded the first, second and third prizes.

First prize: 85 points (certificate, medal)

Second prize: 75 – 84 points (certificate, medal)

Third prize: 60 – 74 points (certificate, medal)

The first prize winner’s teacher will receive the best instructor award certificate.

Teachers of the second and third prize winners will receive a certificate of excellent instructor award.

Application fee:

The application fee is 25 EUR / per person/per category. (The application fee includes the jury fee at each round and the concerts and workshops tickets for the Zheng Music Festival in Europe. The travels and accommodations for the awards concert are not included.)
